The Cane Corso story about Spunk Gang!
My name is Slobodan Grujic,
the founder and owner of
Cane Corso kennel “Spunk Gang”
Kennel’s name is officially registered in August 2010 under the FCI ( Fédération Cynologique Internationale ) and KSS ( Serbian kennel club ) under the registration number FCI 5062. The Cane Corso story begin.
Since the kennel is registered in 2010, my story and dream about the Cane Corso breed started several years before that year so, let’s start from begin…
I’m located in the city of Vojka, close to the capital city of Serbia, Belgrade in Europe, and close to the international airport “Nikola Tesla”. It’s around 30km far away from Belgrade indeed and about 20min of highway driving. As this is a village, people over here live in houses with big or very big yards which makes it suitable for people to live a quality life with fresh air.
My family always had one dog in the yard, usually, it was some kind of shepherd dog, and the purpose of the dog was to protect the house and the yard from strangers. Maybe many families in that time, which lived in a house with a yard, had dogs for guard purposes. That was some kind of tradition indeed, that every house must have a dog.
The year of 2005
I was a teenager and, from childhood my family teach me how to behave with dogs in the right way, so I know many things. My parents consist I am enough old so they allowed me to have my dog. That was the happiness of the sky! At that time, the internet was not as today as it is. It was time and hard to find much information easily, but at that time were newspapers about dogs and I can’t wait to get a new number of them every week.
Dobermann or Cane Corso?!
It was the year Cane Corso was unpopular and not known breed to the people, but I saw some examples of the breed, read a lot about many breeds, and know about the Cane Corso breed. To be honest, I had a doubt, I wanted a big agile dog, a guard dog, should I go with the popular Dobermann or with Cane Corso?! Both are elegant dogs, both excellent guardians, and both agile, but Cane Corso is stronger, bigger, powerful, and took my heart! At that time I just wanted a dog for myself, to enjoy with it. After almost a year, I got my very first Cane Corso puppy, it was female and named Kimi.
In the following two years, I learn a lot about the breed and meet people who also own Cane Corsos, so we could share our experiences and knowledge about the breed.
Visited some dog shows and see some more dogs and expand my view about the breed. Unfortunately at that time, Cane Corso was unpopular, and not so many dogs entered the shows. But I had honor to meet older breeders and get my knowledge expanded.
The year of 2008
…was the year of my very first breeding. My female was over two years of age and I wanted to get the experience with the puppies. At that time, in Serbia was such an amazing Cane Corso imported from Italy. His name was Cherokke Di Nero Puro, reverse brindle color ( fawn with black stripes ). We did breeding and that match gave us 7 beautiful puppies born on 24th April 2008. This was my first unofficial Spunk Gang breeding, Astra is the name of the dog I kept from this match. This was the first sign I want to become a breeder and give my best to breed improvement.
Since 2009 dog shows started intensity with our dogs entered in.
Health care
Because in the year of 2009, I went and check the health dysplasia status of Astra for the hips and elbows. I went with her to the Veterinary Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade. The best place I could go and check her hips and elbows. She had excellent hips and elbows, and one more sign of why Spunk Gang Cane Corso is today. Healthy dogs with long lifespans!
Without health, there is not possible that a dog lives long life! Health can be managed by owner and breed. Includes the right food, the right amount of food, the right supplements, and the right activity for the dog and, next to the excellent bloodline of the dog!
The year 2010 is the year I registered the kennel name “Spunk Gang” under FCI and KSS and the registration number is FCI 5062.
The same year was also the year when our second breeding comes, and the first official Spunk Gang litter “S”. In the upcoming years we visited many shows and make such a great archive with wins under very different and many judges who recognized the quality of our Cane Corsos and awarded it with high placements.
How our breeding program was going, by improving the bloodline of Spunk Gang
we keep only the finest quality dogs and continue to compete on national and international shows. In the country and outside the country as I want show to the people the quality of Spunk Gang dogs.
I competed in all countries in eastern Europe, Balkan, and Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia & Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania but also Hungary, Austria, Germany, Italy, etc…
I have visited many specialty shows and club shows in different countries and competed with my dogs. In most cases, I have shown the best quality dogs I had at that moment, and in every show, they are recognized and highly placed by judges specialists of Cane Corso. Some of the judges were Mr. Massimo Inzoli, Mr. Danilo Giorgio, Mr. Luigi Di Renzo, Mrs. Sarka Bajerova, Mr. Guido Vandoni, Ms. Montserat Fernandes, and many others…
The finest quality of Cane Corso!
But to confirm that Spunk Gang has the finest Cane Corso quality! I compete in as many as possible World Dog Shows and European Dog Shows hosted in Europe. Since WORLD DOG SHOW 2012 which was held on 18-21 May in Salzburg, Austria. Later European dog show in Bucuresti, Romania, and almost everyone every year. To make precise to the people who don’t know. Only one World dog show and one European dog show are scheduled in one year.
The first serious result came at World Dog Show 2013 in Budapest, Hungary. Don’t Touch Me I am Spunk Gang won second place in class and become baby vice WORLD WINNER out of almost 20 dogs that entered in the class. In the same show, Jazz Spunk Gang was selected in the top 10 dogs in junior class from over 50 dogs entered in class! It was a dog show where entered 350 Cane Corsos.
I have visited and competed in World and Euro dog shows in Romania, Hungary, Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Poland, Belgium, Norway, etc…
Many more results came
Like every year were high placements of our dogs. The titles after 2013 come at the European dog show 2016 held in Brussels, Belgium. Astra became vice veteran European winner, but Yasmeen Spunk Gang became vice baby European champion!
The year 2019 European Cane Corso cup was held in Budapest, Hungary. Many dogs entered the show, and Ilona Spunk Gang wins first place and the title of European CUP Junior winner!
The year 2021 and the World Dog Show was held in Brno, Czech Republic. Desert Eagle Spunk Gang wins first place and the title of veteran WORLD WINNER!
Visits and collaboration with other breeders
If you want to make successful, then you have to collaborate and refresh your bloodline. I did and still doing. I have imported many dogs but under very strict selections from reputable breeders. So I can keep the Spunk Gang bloodline healthy and quality but with improvements on in. I have traveled a lot and visited many kennels. Learn from other people who wanted to share knowledge. Unfortunately, not all people want to share knowledge, but I’m very thankful to the people who wanted.
The year 2019 – dog judge licence
The year before 2019, after I learn a lot about dogs, my interest expanded to another breed as well. I requested to join the community of dog judges, after the passed procedure, practical examinations, and tests which took almost a year. I got the license to judge dogs from the II FCI group in May 2019. First molosser dogs and year after ( 2020 ) pincher and shepherds. In the year 2021, I became a judge specialist for moloss breeds. Since 2022 I became an International FCI judge so I can judge dogs all over the world in different countries. I judged on national, international, and specialty shows!

Due to the fact of 10 years of research, I’m very happy that I helped breed to be recognized worldwide. By the people who are lovers of the breed.
