This time I will talk about white Cane Corso, one of the basic colors of the breed but not recognized today.
It’s often mentioned white color, many people consider it as an albino, too. Albino color dogs have a reduced amount of melanin or no melanin at all. This kind of dogs will have no pigmentation on the nose, lips, eyes, ears, and paws. White color should be considered as dog has completely white fur over the whole body. But the correct name of the color of these dogs is straw color. The reason of this calling is, they have some shades of the very light fawn color over their body and head. The white Cane Corso is not the same color as Dogo Argentino has, but I try to make this article simple so I mention white as straw color as same, even it’s not same. Some dogs have fawn shades “darker” and some dogs almost dont have it. So, let’s make that white is equal to the straw when we talk about this breed, so we have no confusion. That’s the two terms for the one color in general.
Why white Cane Corso is not recognized?
It is the real question, but I will give you response.
This “type” of dog is not sick, they do not have problems with heart, they can do everything as any other Cane Corso color. Even they are basically light in color and have shades of fawn all over the body and muzzle. In mostly of cases they miss grey or dark mask on the nose/muzzle. That is the problem why they are not recognized nowadays by the standard of FCI and AKC.
These dogs have shades of light fawn on their body, as I said before, and it is the reason for their straw color officially. If they are light fawn completely, then they are no anymore white Corsos. The acceptable color by the standards is not white with fawn shades. That is the main reason why they are not recognized colors. With that, this automatically means that they are not valuable dogs. Even dog is completely excellent with exterior quality, but if doesn’t fit the recognized color, it means no show quality.
White Cane Corso has not a dark muzzle mask
Another common thing with white Cane Corso is that they don’t have a grey or black mask. The mask is required by the FCI and AKC standards for the light colored dogs. The mask should not goes beyond the eyes line.
Also the standard colored dogs, if they do not fit some of the required quality, they are not valuable dogs. For example, fawn Cane Corso without black or grey mask is in the same quality as white Cane Corso. They both do not fit the standard due to the lack of quality in color.
I do not consider white color a big mistake for the breed, they are not crossbred dogs but purebred dogs. They are not valuable color as its the same with carbon color for example.

Now, let me tell you the story about these dogs and competitions over Europe and USA. Many thing about me and my Cane Corsos you can find out by clicking here.
I do understand perfectly the quality of the dogs, and due to my long experience with the Cane Corso. By breeding, showing, researching the history, working on improvement of the breed, seeing a huge number of dogs since 2006, visiting origin country many times, talked with many people, lovers and breeders, judge experts. I do everything of this free and for education purposes, so people can get educated.
Back in 2013, I suddenly got white Cane Corso puppies. I knew then these dogs exist but were very few in the world, it’s another story I will talk about. I kept one male for myself and wanted to check how he will go in the show ring on official shows. How judges will look on this unrecognized color. He was stunning in quality as Spunk Gang produces the best Cane Corso puppies. With a very typical head, excellent body structure, and amazing movement, but he was white Cane Corso. And guess what? I win many shows with him! It was unbelievable to me that nonstandard color could win the show, even in puppy class.

So, aware of what I’m doing, I have entered this white Cane Corso on the biggest show event in the world. It was the World Dog Show in Italy, the origin country of the Cane Corso breed. Under the breed specialist, I was curious about what we will make over there with this dog. Guess what? Of course, this white Cane Corso lost with the lowest possible score judge gave, due to the lack of color quality and without a muzzle mask. Anything else will be a big surprise for me.
Not only in Europe, but also in the United States of America. Check this white Cane Corso won Best of Breed under the AKC show and later became the AKC champion in beauty.
This all showed that many dog shows lost the point, due to the lack of knowledge of the dog judges. Not only because of this color but of many other champions who have no quality for winning the dog show. But, there are still some judges who judge by the quality of the dogs and let quality dogs win the shows.
It was the one experiment I went with my white Cane Corso. Spunk Gang goes only to the approved officially shows where judges are the experts of the breed. Entering only the highest quality Cane Corso dogs, which promotes the breed on the right way.
I, Slobodan Grujic, as a licensed FCI judge, will give my best in the dog show ring and only the highest quality dogs entered will win the show.
