The biggest misconception, the Cane Corso fallacy!

Many people know to recognize a quality dog. But some people when saw a Corso with a short muzzle say: “Hey, I’m an expert of the breed, I know, it’s a Cane Corso boxer type.”. The story of the Cane Corso fallacy began…

Then I would like to ask you, is a German Boxer with a longer muzzle a Cane Corso indeed?

Of course, it’s not the truth, and as many of you know. But let me explain to you the main characteristics of that and let me solve the mystery surrounding the Cane Corso fallacy. So everybody knows for a milenium!

Check the true Cane Corso

…and as many of you know how to recognize a true Cane Corso and its quality, some people still don’t know. Let me show one example of how Cane Corso should look, so we can compare dogs later in the text, you can check this Cane Corso for example, or this one.

Now we are coming to the dog with a short muzzle. Yup, I said dog because it’s not a Cane Corso and it’s not a Boxer type. Many of you will agree with me. Check the difference between these two dogs in the photo, please. But still some small part of the people will say it’s a Cane Corso but boxer type ( dog on the right ).

Let’s starting to fix the Cane Corso fallacy, right now!

In short sentences, a description of the ideal Cane Corso look and expression is a square head with a square muzzle. The muzzle length is 1/2 length of the skull. Wide as its length, deep as its width. Moderate stop, flat nose, wrinkles free. The nasal mushroom is big and the nostrils open. Lips form reversed letter “U”. Eyes almond shape and dark, with no droopy eyelids. Let’s visit this link for everybody who wants to read the whole standard proportions.

Now let’s explain the main characteristics of German Boxer in short sentences. The characteristic look of the muzzle should be as broad and powerful as possible. Never appear too small. It should be clean and wrinkles free. Rectangular head, skull is slighty arched. Eyes are black and round. With expression of inteligence and energy of the dog.

Now, let’s compare German Boxer with the Cane Corso boxer dog.

German Boxer vs Boxer type

Do they are even similar?!

They are not even similar dogs. So the mystery about the Cane Corso boxer type is done I will say. All the people who still believed before saw this. Crossbreeding may affect joints & bones, especially if we speak about Cane Corso as large dog breed.

So, if that dog is not a Cane Corso boxer type, the right question is next!
What a similar breed is to it and what type this “Cane Corso” is?

In the world exist one extremely popular dog breed, maybe the most attractive one. It’s a French Bulldog. It has a blocky head, almond eyes, square and short muzzle. Moderate stop. Breeding these two breeds, Cane Corso and Frenchy, you will get probably a dog that looks like the not defined dog compared to purebred Corso and purebred Boxer.

Officially we have a name for the dog – Its Cane Corso Frenchie type!

Cane Corso frenchy type

There are some breeders ( will not name them ) who did breeding between Frenchies and Cane Corso. They present themselves as serious breeders with a reputation. I was surprised when heard that and asked: “Why you would do that?”, the answer was: “I have some people who live in apartments, they would love to have a Cane Corso but they have no space for it. If I breed a Cane Corso female with a Frenchie male, I can get a Cane Corso which is larger than Frenchie but smaller than Corso and keep the look of Corso but with a shorter muzzle.”

Unfortunately, we have today Frenchie type of Cane Corso but call it boxer type.

Here are some photos randomly chosen from social networks. To show the people what the Cane Corso Frenchy type looks like:

For the people who want to get a Cane Corso puppy I have a suggestion, do not go and buy a puppy from a non-reputable breeder. Unless you are ready to have a crossbreeding dog instead of a purebred one if you already paid for it. If you want crossbreeding dog, you can adapt it – find out here!
